The position of the ruling power is that they do not see the need to reform the Council of Justice - the recommendations of the Venice Commission should be implemented in order to open negotiations in December on joining the European Union, - EuroOptimists deputy Khatia Dekanoidze said, thus responding to Shalva Papuashvili's statement on justice reform and the "vetting" model.
According to Dekanoidze, the recommendations of the Venice Commission set out what the country should do to implement the reform and the recommendations should be implemented.
"There was a recommendation from the Venice Commission. This is not about what Khatia Dekanoidze says to the ruling power, it is about the fact that, according to Shalva Papuashvili, we do not need to reform the Council of Justice at all. If the ruling power has any cornerstones and models of new reforms, I am ready and I am sure that we will all consider these models in the Parliament. However, their answer was that they do not see the need to reform the Council of Justice. Everything is written in the recommendations of the Venice Commission, which must be implemented in order to open the negotiations in December," said Dekanoidze.
For information, the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, states that handing over the decisive role of staffing the judicial system to other states, which the opposition and some non-governmental organizations have been demanding for several days, is tantamount to giving up the country's sovereignty.
"For several days, the opposition and some non-governmental organizations have been insisting on transferring the decisive role in staffing the judicial system to other states. It is clear to all Georgians that this is equivalent to the failure of the independence of Georgia as a state and the surrender of the country's sovereignty. That is why our people will give a proper answer in the elections to everyone who has lost the sense of statehood and national self-respect for our country. Moreover, we should know that all those who show us Albania, Moldova and Ukraine as role models are dishonest. According to any survey, Georgia is ahead of these countries in all parameters," Shalva Papuashvili said.
