The threats are constant - maybe they will come up with something else, but I will not stop traveling, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili said in an interview with Le Monde when she answered the question whether she can travel freely after her impeachment attempt failed.
According to Zurabishvili, the mentioned case is closed today.
"I contested this charge in the Constitutional Court, despite the fact that it, like other institutions, is less independent. Today it is a closed case. The threats are constant - maybe they will come up with something else, but I will not stop traveling," said Zurabishvili.
Another question was related to the fact that Salome Zurabishvili expressed support for Ukraine after the Russian invasion, but never went to Kyiv.
When asked why she did not do this, the President explained that she decided not to put herself under additional attacks by going to places that are not directly related to European integration.
"I was invited to Kyiv several times, but because of my accusation [impeachment procedure], I set the following course of action: not to go to any other capitals, except Paris, Berlin, Brussels, or the Baltic countries, from this period until December, when the European decision will be made [27 countries will make an official the decision on the status of the candidate] and therefore, I would not subject myself to additional attacks by going to places that are not directly related to [European integration, even though the fate of Ukraine is related to ours]," says Salome Zurabishvili.
To the question that the impeachment procedure has ended unsuccessfully and what is preventing her from going to Kyiv now, the President briefly answers: "We will see." With the same phrase, she answered the question, "It's not ruled out?".
To another question about why she did not go to Kyiv before the impeachment procedure, Salome Zurabishvili explains that "this [impeachment] has been in preparation for a long time."
"I knew about issues that are not so well known to the public," said Salome Zurabishvili.
