Wizz Air, the fastest-growing and most eco-friendly airline in Europe, has announced the addition of a fourth Airbus A321neo aircraft to its base at Kutaisi International Airport in Georgia. The new aircraft will enable the airline to launch direct regular flights between Kutaisi and Copenhagen twice a week, starting from this summer. Tickets for the new route are already available for purchase on the airline's website and mobile application.
This expansion of Wizz Air's base at Kutaisi Airport will result in an increase in the number of flights to 28, with additional frequencies available for Athens, Barcelona, Berlin, Dortmund, Memmingen, Milan, Paris, Prague, and Rome. Furthermore, the addition of another based aircraft will create up to 40 new jobs and enable the airline to optimize the number of flights and frequencies on its existing routes. The move will also enable Kutaisi Airport to gradually transform from a small Wizz Air base to a medium-sized base, paving the way for further growth and development.
Commenting on the development, Irakli Karkashadze, the head of the Union of Airports, said, "By the end of 2023, there will be four Wizz Air aircraft based at Kutaisi International Airport simultaneously. This will lead to the employment of even more local staff and create up to 40 new jobs. Another based aircraft will guarantee that the airline can optimize the number of flights and frequencies on existing routes, which will enable Kutaisi Airport to gradually transform from a small base to a medium-sized one, which is a prerequisite for further stable development and growth."
Wizz Air has been rapidly expanding its operations in Georgia, with the addition of two based aircraft within a year. The airline's commitment to Georgia highlights its desire to further strengthen the Kutaisi base and offer Georgian customers an increased number of destinations to choose from. The expansion of frequencies on existing flights will also enable Georgian customers to travel more frequently and conveniently.
In conclusion, Wizz Air's expansion at Kutaisi Airport is a positive development for the local economy and the tourism industry. The airline's continued growth in Georgia will offer more options for travelers, create jobs, and further strengthen the country's position as a regional hub for aviation.
